National Day Expo Opens At The Mall

Bandar Seri Begawan - In conjunction with the 21st National Day celebrations, a `Trade Exhibition' was yesterday officially launched at The Mall, drawing the participation of some 30 booth operators who are showcasing both local and international products.

Scheduled to run until Feb 27, the event - organised by the 21st National Day Celebrations Sponsorship Committee - was officially launched by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports cum guest of honour Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Paduka Dr Haji Awang Hussain bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Mohd Yusof, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Executive Organising Committee for the 2 P' National Day celebrations.

In an opening address by Co-chairperson of the Sponsorship Committee for the 21st National Day celebration Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato Paduka Haji Awang Abd Hapidz bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laksamana Haji Awang Abd Razak, it was revealed that the commercial exhibition served to display the true advantage of the economy that the Brunei business community enjoys with huge investment opportunities.

Following the official launch, the co-chairperson presented a souvenir to the guest of honour.

The guest of honour then proceeded to tour the expo and witness a special teh-tarik performance by Malaysia's Teh-Tarik King Sheikh Kadir.

Playing a good sport, the guest of honour then accepted an offer to participate in a teh-tarik competition.

The Pehin contested the VIP section in which he showed his prowess in teh-tarik making, together with the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hj 3emat bin Hj Ampal, the Co-chairperson of the Sponsor Committee Pehin Date Hj Hapidz Laksamana and a senior officer at the Adat Istiadat Negara, Pg Seri Wijaya Pg Hj Ahmad.

With guidance from the expert, the foursome staged their teh-tarik performance and was subsequently rewarded for their attempts.

Meanwhile, some of the booths at the exhibition include government agencies such as the Information Department, Narcotics Control Bureau, Prime Minister's Office and Royal Brunei Police Force.

Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition that is open from 10am to 10pm daily.

Various side events such as a teh-tarik competition, Road Safety Campaign and Health Campaign will be held throughout the one-week exhibition.
