Dry Season Bushfires Near Kg Mata-Mata, Seria By Pass

Bandar Seri Begawan - A bushfire broke out on a hill near the residential area of STKRJ Kampung Mata-Mata and Perpindahan Mata-Mata, Gadong early yesterday morning.

The fire was believed to have been caused by open burning activities carried out by some of the residents of Kg Perpindahan Mata-Mata.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 11am and managed to put out the fire 10 minutes later.

Fire Services Department officials later said that the humps and narrow nature of 'he village street had prevented them from reaching the scene any sooner.

In the wake of worsening haze conditions in the country, members of the public are advised not to carry out any forms of open burning throughout the dry season.

Elsewhere, another bushfire took place yesterday along the Seria by-pass, near the Lorong Tiga Housing Scheme. Heavy plumes smoke were created in the fire, causing reduced visibility in the surrounding areas.

Motorists are therefore advised to drive with extra caution and to switch on their headlights for safety reasons under such circumstances. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
