By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A police constable was sentenced to three weeks' imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate's Court for deliberately not turning up for work.

It is an offence under Section 55 of the Royal Brunei FFolice Force Act Chapter 50, which carries a 12-month jail term.

The defendant, Mohamad Dimira bin Mahmud, 26, appeared before Senior Magistrate Hj Abdullah Soefri Saturday. The court heard that the defendant began his service with RBPF in January 2000 and was attached to the Police Secretariat at the Police Headquarters.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Zelda Skinner told the court that the defendant last reported for duty on November 25 last year and never turned up since then.

A police report was lodged a month later that the defendant had absented himself from work continuously since he last reported for duty on Nov. 25 last year.

The prosecutor said the defendant was arrested by CID personnel on January 3 this year near the Indoor Stadium in Berakas.

During the investigation she said the defendant admitted that he deliberately absented himself from duty thereby deserting the RBPF and had no intention of ever returning to work. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
