Ganglord inaugurates temple as cops search outside

India - A notorious Indian ganglord inaugurated a Hindu temple as police officers searched for him outside.

Dadua is wanted dead or alive in Uttar Pradesh for more than 80 crimes including murders, reports the Hindustan Times.

He reportedly presided over the installation of a five-headed statue of monkey god Hanuman at a temple in Narsinghpur.

Three companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary had been stationed in the area to arrest him.

Thousands of invitations had been sent out to VIPs, including top politicians, to attend the ceremony.

Locals believe the outlaw, who carries a reward on his head, may be seeking absolution for his crimes through religion.

According to the newspaper, authorities have spent the equivalent of £12.5 million trying to capture him in the last few years. -- Ananova News
