HSBC Holds Environmental Course
By Malai Hassan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan – A leading bank in Brunei is showing the way that
though its core business is in the money market, safeguarding the
environment is also its prime concern.
HSBC
Brunei, according to a press statement, organised a one-day
'Introduction to Environment' course for its Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) Committee members recently.
The event was conducted by Megamas
Training Company. It was one of HSBC Group's initiatives to adopt and
promote good environmental practices within its operations and with
those it does business with.
The course focused on both global and
local environmental issues plus strategies that HSBC Brunei adopts to
meet its environmental commitments as part of the CSR requirements.
These included reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions, waste minimisation and recycling,
sustainable development, pollution prevention, raising public
awareness and incorporating environmental considerations into business
with both clients and suppliers.
Michael Dale, the course's
instructor, said: "Sound environmental practices need to be
incorporated into all industries as part of the private sector's
responsibility to help protect the natural environment.
"This course has further demonstrated
Brunei HSBC's commitment towards implementing and developing effective
environmental management strategies for the benefit of the nation and
for future generations," he added. --
