Quran Reading In Arabic School Marks New Hijrah Year

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Arabic Religious Secondary School for Girls (SUAMPRIPAD) yesterday held Al-Quran reading competition in the school hall to mark the new Hijrah year.

Ustaz Hj Ibrahim Hj Sahat, Head of the "Al-Quran and Amali Agama" Department of SUAMPRIPAD, in his welcoming speech thanked the 35 students, who took part in the preliminary stage of the competition from which only 6 - 3 Upper Secondary and 3 Lower Secondary - were selected to the grand finals.

Among the objectives of this competition were to identify talented Quran readers (pariahs) who can represent the school in future Quran reading competitions, to improve the Quran reading ability of the students as well as to help them gain confidence while reading the Quran in public.

A nasyid performance was presented by Form Three students to further enliven the occasion.

Ustazah Piah Hj Mohd Saat, the principal of the school, gave away prizes to the winners of the competition.

Winners were Dayang Syairah Hj Salim, a Form Four student, for the Upper Secondary level, and Dayang Seri Ramizah Metussin, a Form Two student, for the Lower Secondary category. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
