Flags For Mini Cooper Convoy In
Gadong
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Owners of British-manufactured Mini Cooper originals
and early versions are called upon to join a convoy of such vehicles
for receiving mini national flags to be flown on top of their cars
tomorrow morning at The Mall in Gadong.
However, organisers said all the
owners of a Mini Cooper must first assemble in the car park area
fronting McDonald's in Gadong at 7.30am. The distribution of miniature
flags will take place around 9 am at The Mall.
A National Day Exhibition will be
held there and officiated by the Minister of Culture, Youth and
Sports, after which mini national flags will be distributed to the
public.
"Owners of Mini Cooper vehicles will
be lining up to get theirs at that time," said Najib. For more
information on the car convoy, please call him at 8824300 or Sofian at
8855513.
Najib
said owners of the Mini Cooper vehicles will be joining the convoy to
share a show of the population's national patriotism towards the
National Day celebration.
Najib
added that he and other owners will be discussing the formation of a
Mini Cooper Club to demonstrate their passion for the British-made
vehicles.
Designed by Alec Issigonis in 1956,
Mini Cooper has created a sensation all over the world as a people's
car capable, of getting from A to B comfortably, safely and
economically. Najib said out of all the thousands of different cars
manufactured over the last century, only a very few have truly made
history.
"There may only be three such cars
which rise above the common herd in the sense Tat they have brought
about major changes to society or development of the motor car itself
The Ford Model T, the Volkswagen Beetle and the Mini.
"Therefore, the Mini Cooper is worth
being treasured and that's why we decided to talk about forming a
club," he said.
As the first modern car to use a
transverse engine and front-wheel drive, the Mini began a revolution
that led to almost every other car manufacturer adopting a similar
layout or design. --
