Former Development Minister Faces Twelve Corruption Charges

Bandar Seri Begawan - In the first ever corruption case against a Brunei government minister here, Queen's Counsel Mr Andrew Macrae singled out nine projects involving corruption amounting to millions of dollars.

In his 24 page opening address, Mr Macrae alleged that Pengiran Dr Haji Ismail bin Pengiran Haji Damit accepted "things of substantial value" from contractor Wong Tim Kai of TED (Pte) Ltd without "appropriate consideration".

He said the acceptance has placed the minister in a compromising position as a public servant. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
