By Lyna Mohammad

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation yesterday initiated a meeting on the implementation of welfare assistance which was attended by various agencies involved in rendering welfare assistance services in the country.

Held at the Foundation's complex in the capital, the meeting was chaired by Pehin Dato Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman, the foundation's chairman.

The meeting was aimed at establishing a working network amongst the relevant agencies, standardising guidelines of providing assistance and organising courses and training for social workers.

Besides implementing welfare assistance, it was also aimed at enabling the relevant agencies to be able to provide assistance in a more effective and systematic way so that the aid can reach its target.

At the same time, the implementation of assistance at all relevant agencies will help overcome poverty issues whereby school drop-outs, families in difficult situations and other related social issues will be discussed to determine joint action.

The meeting yesterday was organised in line with the efforts to establish cooperation and strategic partnership in overcoming poverty in a more focused and concrete manner.

Follow-up meetings will also be conducted which will involve associations that are involved in social and welfare service activities.

Prior to yesterday's meeting, the foundation had meetings with the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Youth and Sports Department, Islamic Religious Council and the Community Affairs Unit, now known as Community Development Department (JAPEM).
