Welfare Bodies Meet To Enhance
Services

Begawan - The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation yesterday
initiated a meeting on the implementation of welfare assistance which
was attended by various agencies involved in rendering welfare
assistance services in the country.
Held at the Foundation's complex in
the capital, the meeting was chaired by Pehin Dato Seri Setia Ustaz Hj
Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman, the foundation's
chairman.
The meeting was aimed at establishing
a working network amongst the relevant agencies, standardising
guidelines of providing assistance and organising courses and training
for social workers.
Besides implementing welfare
assistance, it was also aimed at enabling the relevant agencies to be
able to provide assistance in a more effective and systematic way so
that the aid can reach its target.
At the same time, the implementation
of assistance at all relevant agencies will help overcome poverty
issues whereby school drop-outs, families in difficult situations and
other related social issues will be discussed to determine joint
action.
The meeting yesterday was organised
in line with the efforts to establish cooperation and strategic
partnership in overcoming poverty in a more focused and concrete
manner.
Follow-up meetings will also be
conducted which will involve associations that are involved in social
and welfare service activities.
Prior to yesterday's meeting, the
foundation had meetings with the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Youth and
Sports Department, Islamic Religious Council and the Community Affairs
Unit, now known as Community Development Department (JAPEM).
Present at yesterday's function were
Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Awg Abd Ghani, the Managing Director of the
Foundation, and Dato Paduka Awg Hj Zakaria, its Assistant Managing
Director.
Also in attendance were officers from
the Islamic Religious Council, Islamic Dakwah Centre, Ministry of
Religious Affairs, Community Development Department, Ministry of
Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, the Pengiran Muda
Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Orphan's Fund and the District Offices.
