CNY gathering
By Izam S. Ya'akub

Staff of the Sheraton Utama Hotel in
the capital yesterday held a Chinese New Year gathering. The
celebration began with the presentation of mock "gold ingots" to the
"associates" (workers) of the hotel by their general manager, Datin
Hjh Zainah Bujang. The ingots symbolise a life in abundance. The
associates then tossed the "yee sang" (photo above) - a salad of raw
fish slices with dried fruits and sauces - which a ritual associated
with the Chinese New Year Celebration, believed to bring good fortune
and longevity to those who performed it.
