By James Kon & Hjh Saemah Zulkefli
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The festive Chinese New Year mood reverberated
through the HSBC main branch in the capital and in its Kuala Belait
branch yesterday morning as customers were entertained by the annual
Lion Dance performances.
Two heads of lions from the Chung
Hwa Middle School Lion Dance Troupe put on a vibrant show for the
HSBC customers, dancing to the beat of drums and gongs.
Present among the HSBC staff at the
main branch were Mr Guy Priestley, the Chief Executive Officer of
HSBC Brunei, and Mr Sit-non Williams, the Deputy CEO of HSBC Brunei.
Ushering the year of the Rooster,
the traditional "Open House" receptions at HSBC main branch as well
as branches in Kuala Belait and Seria were held to give the Bank an
opportunity to celebrate the Lunar New Year with its valued
customers.
Mr
Priestley said that the receptions were an opportunity for HSBC
staff to meet and celebrate the Lunar New Year with their customers
and also to reciprocate on the "Open House" invitations extended by
customers of HSBC to the Bank's staff.
"It is a long-standing tradition
for us at HSBC to support initiatives which help promote greater
understanding between the various communities in Brunei Darussalam,"
said the CEO.
"On Behalf of the 617 HSBC staff in
Brunei, let me take this opportunity to wish the Chinese community
in Brunei a happy and prosperous Lunar New Year."
Meanwhile students from Chung Hwa
Belait and Chung Ching Middle School also gave Lion Dance
performances at HSBC Kuala Belait and Seria branches.
HSBC Seria held its open house at
around 10am while HSBC Kuala Belait held the ceremony at around 2pm.
While witnessing the magnificent
Lion Dance performances, guests were served with oranges as a sign
of prosperity.
Some of the customers had red
packets prepared and stuck them on tree branches while others
created various designs out of orange peels, which were to be given
to the Bank manager as a sign of the Bank's development throughout
the year. --
