UBD Celebrates New Hijrah

Bandar Seri Begawan – Universiti Brunei Darussalam held a ceremony at its Surau yesterday to mark the new Hijrah.

The university took the recent Asian tsunami disaster as its main focal point yesterday to take as a lesson and urge Muslims to lead a more righteous was of life.

Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Hazair, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, attended the event as the guest of honour.

Also present were Dr Hj Ismail Hj Duraman, UBD Vice Chancellor; Dr Hj Mohd Yusop Hj Damit, Acting Assistant Vice Chancellor; and, others.

It began with a reading of the al-Quran and a welcoming speech from Dr Hj Serbini Hj Matahir, the Working Committee Co-Chairman of Takmir Masjid.

The ceremony continued with a religious lecture and an audio visual presentation, ending with the Dzikir Marhaban for haj pilgrims and a certificate presentation before Asar prayers. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
