Consensus To Share Resources In
Preserving Islamic Image

Begawan - Representatives of the 3rd Muzakarah of Brunei,
Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore Religious Ministers (MABIMS) have
reached a consensus to share all energy and resources in dealing
with global issues that effect the Islamic Image.
In an interview, Pehin Dato Awang
Haji Salim, the Syariah High Court Judge stressed the importance of
religious education to hinder immoral activities.
Pehin
said religious education and practices should be enhanced so as to
keep at bay activities related to drugs and vices such as AIDS and
prostitution.
In short, religious education
should be given to every individual through families and educational
institutions.
He added that scholars need to
learn and understand and keep abreast of the science of life and
biotechnology.
In this way, they can explain with
utmost clarity pertaining to syariah laws, particularly by holding
firmly to principles so that Muslims will not deviate from abiding
by Allah's commands.
Haji
Abdullah bin Mat, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM)
Director of Dakwah, said to make decisions relating to life sciences
and biotechnology is one of MABIMS' priorities, including ensuring
sustainable food supply for the 1.2 billion Muslims around the
world.
At the same, he stressed on the
importance of upholding the image of Islam.
Drs. H. Mudzakir MM, the Director
of Islamic Religious Management of the Ditjen Bimas Islam and Haj
Coordinator of the Religious Department of Indonesia, underscored
that proper family guidance would help to shape a happier household
and create harmony among family members.
“A strong family would, in turn,
help to develop the country,” he added.
He said this was what was agreed in
the meeting and members would strengthen this principle.
Meanwhile, a representative from
Singapore Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) felt that MABIMS is now
heading towards a more relevant direction while maintaining Islamic
religious principles in a multiracial environment.
“Whether they are Muslims or not,
together they should be protecting the security and well being of
the Muslim ummah,” he said. --
