Over 50 Foreign Workers Held In Belait Raid

Bandar Seri Begawan - Over 50 foreign workers in the Belait district were questioned during a raid codenamed "Operasi Basmi Sembilan" last night.

The operation involved 12 officers from the Immigration Department and was headed by Awang Sulaiman bin Haji Hidup, Chief Officer of Immigration.

The operation was held from 11 pm till l am.

The workers were staying in rented houses along Jalan Maulana, Jalan Jaya Negara, Jalan Sungai Pandan and Jalan Pandan Tiga.

As a result of the raid, one worker was ordered to report to the Immigration Department to verify his travelling documents.

The department added that they would continue to conduct such raids from time to time to prevent any violation of the Immigration Act and Regulations and the Passport Act as well as to detect foreign workers who ran away from their employers. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
