Brunei To Hold Book Fair 2005

Bandar Seri Begawan - Over 40 participants from Jordan, Egypt, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei will take part in the Brunei Book Fair 2005 to be held at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas.

This was disclosed by Awg Hj Abu Bakar bin Hj Zainal, Deputy Director of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), during a press conference at the Dewan Patih Barbai, DBP in Berakas.

According to Awg Hj Abu Bakar, the Brunei Book Fair 2005 will be officiated by Pehin Dato Paduka Dr Hj Awg Hussain bin Pehin Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The book fair carries the theme "Buku Memperkasa Bangsa", and is held in conjunction with the 21st National Day celebrations.

It aims to provide publishers, distributors and the public a place to interact and foster business relationships while enhancing their minds through reading.

The book fair, which will run for ten days, will kick off on February 26 and end March 7. It will be open from 8am till 10pm daily except Friday, when the fair will close at 11.30am and reopen at 2.30pm.

Also in conjunction with the fair will be a line-up of various activities and programmes including quizzes, competitions and stage performances.

Apart from international participants, the Brunei Book Fair 2005, which is organised by DBP, will be participated in by various government sectors, including Islamic Dakwah Centre, State Mufti's Office, Museums Department, Brunei Darussalam History Centre, Postal Services Department and DBP.

According to the Deputy Director, during the launch of the book fair, DBP will unveil 36 new books that were written by Bruneians and published by DBP.

An anthology of tsunami poems priced at $4 will also be sold with all proceeds going to the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund.
