Sultan On Morning Walk With
Australian Prime Minister
Canberra -
His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei began his second day in
Australia with an early morning walk with the Honourable John Howard,
the Prime Minister of Australia.
It was about 6.30 am in Canberra and
3.30 am in Brunei.
This is the setting where the two
leaders met for the morning walk. The air is fresh and the path way
ringing the lake in the middle of Canberra is simply ideal for His
Majesty and the Prime Minister to have informal exchanges while doing
the workout.
His Majesty is a keen sportsman and
has been acknowledged by Australian leaders for his piloting skill.
The Australian Prime Minister at the
age of 65 places great importance in keeping fit and healthy.
According to Australians, their
government has invested a lot in providing facilities such as this
jogging pathways and tracks for cyclists. This is in a way to
encourage people to take up sports.
With the temperature about 20 celcius
and cool morning breeze, the condition is refreshing and inspiring
before the two leaders began stately tasks.
In this morning walk, His Majesty the
Sultan of Brunei and the Prime Minister of Australia covered a
distance of 5 kilometers in about half an hour.
Although they did not break any
record, both leaders did achieve a lot fitness and informal exchanges.
En route to the airport to Sydney,
the next destination in His Majesty's State Visit to Australia, His
Majesty stopped at the Transport Industries Skills Centre in Canberra.
On arrival, His Majesty was welcomed
by the Senior Officials of the Transport Industries Skills Centre.
Three high-powered cars are
introduced to His Majesty. The three Holden Monaro are the latest
edition of the Holden Company manufactured by its factory in Adelaide,
South Australia.
Together with His Majesty to test
drive this car was Mark Skaife, a well known Australian car racer.
The test drive was done on a special
purpose build 2.5 kilometer track. The car was firstly driven by Mark
Skaife, the national top class driver.
The centre is not only giving a
normal driving lesson training but also providing special driving
skills for drivers of heavy vehicle of various classes.
The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei did the test drive himself. In front of His Majesty's car was
the Holden Monaro driven by Mark Skaife.
His Majesty, himself a man of many
talents behind the wheel, is a qualified helicopter and airplane
pilot.
The Monarch's skill in driving his
high powered car was noted with admiration by Mark Skaife.
This professional Australian car
racer has achieved many successes. He is a five-time national
champion.
At the end of the test drive, His
Majesty received a gift from Mr.Mark Skaife in the form of his
personal racing helmet, which according to him, is instrumental in
giving him luck in all the major Australian championships.
Present to witness the test drive was
His Excellency Mark Valle, the Australian Trade Minister.
