His Majesty Hails Growing Aussie Investment In Brunei

Sydney - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, has acknowledged the wide cooperation between Brunei and Australia and hailed a growing trade and investment with an increasing number of Australian companies.

The Sultan made the remark in a titah at the State dinner hosted in His Majesty's honour by the Governor of Australia in Canberra last night.

His Majesty said this wide ranging cooperation covers defense, education, air services, tourism, cultural, social and sporting affairs.

He also noted that there is also a growing number of Australians expressing interests in Brunei's future development.

The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei delivered the titah at the State Dinner hosted by their Excellencies Major-General Micheal Jeffery, the Governor General, and Mrs. Jeffery.

On arrival at the Government House, His Majesty was greeted by the Governor General and Mrs. Jeffrey.

In his titah at the function, His Majesty stressed that Australia is a very important partner and hope that it will continue to be closely linked to Brunei's economic future.

The Monarch noted that Brunei Darussalam is also very pleased to be the long-standing regional partners in the ASEAN-Australia dialogue in APEC and most importantly today in its efforts to ensure regional security for everyone who lives and works in the Asia-Pacific Region.

His Majesty further stated that the State Visit was not only a commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation but also to express Brunei's appreciation and respect for the friendship and contribution made by Australia in all aspects of life in the Asia-Pacific.

Also attending the State Dinner were the Honourable Senator Paul Calvert, the President of the Senate; the Honourable David Hawker, the Speaker of the House of Representatives; the Honourable John Anderson, the Deputy Prime Minister; and, the the Honourable Alexander Downer, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.  -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
