Kampong Ayer Dance Troupe Bound For Japan

Bandar Seri Begawan - Sixteen members of the Kampong Ayer Dance Troupe left for Japan on Sunday to showcase Brunei's traditional cultural dance in the International Folk Performing Arts Festival.

Leading the dance troupe to Japan is Awg Hj Sharbini BPK Dato Paduka Hj Moksin, the village head of Kg Batong. The performance, which will take centre stage at the National Theatre in Tokyo, Japan js, organised by the Agency for Cultural Affairs under Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology.

The International Folk Performing Arts Festival will also feature performances by the Ainu Dance Troupe from Hokkaido, Japan and the Eskimo Dance Troupe from Alaska.

The Kampong Aver Dance Troupe was selected based on its non-professional status as well as on its representation of the traditional and cultural aspects of the Brunei people. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
