Two Foreigners Held In Brunei Waters Raid

Bandar Seri Begawan – Two foreigners whose identification cards were found to have expired, were detained under the Immigration Act during a joint operation along Brunei waters yesterday.

Their case is being investigated.

Six government agencies carried out the operation code named 'Operasi Sepadu' in the Brunei Waters with the aim of maintaining peace and stability in the country yesterday.

The Royal Brunei Marine Police and the Departments of Internal Security, Immigration, Customs, Fisheries and Forestry mobilised a total of 40 personnel for the operation, which began early in the morning.

The areas that came under their scrutiny involved those along the Brunei Bay and several other sea routes which are currently being used to enter Brunei.

The operation included checking of passengers and immigration papers.

The operation was intended at curbing and eradicating smuggling activities such as stolen goods and drugs as well as labouring illegal immigrants.

The government agencies from time to time would carry out the operation to safeguard the country from undesirable elements.

The enforcement agencies said they will not only patrol entry points but also boundaries and reserve forests located in the Brunei waters to check and arrest those involved in illegal logging activities. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
