The festive season is a time - more
than any other - to give thanks for blessings of peace, good fortune
and good health. It is also a time to remember the less privileged and
to lend them a hand in any way possible.
Believing so, Taipei Economic and
Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) representative Dr James Chen
and his spouse Maria Chen yesterday visited the elderly folks at the
Seria Community Service Council Centre.
The trip brought much festive cheers
to the elderly folks who were treated to a lunch that included
dumplings, hot-and-sour soup, and imported Taiwan oranges.
Sharing the joy and happiness with
the centre's elderly folks, Mr and Mrs Chen later presented each of
them a t-shirt and a red packet. Mrs Chen also presented earrings to
the female volunteers at the centre as a token of appreciation for
their efforts in caring for the elderly folks.
According to Mrs Chen, the centre
houses some 11 seniors whose ages range between 70 and 90 years.
The trip yesterday marked the first
of such visits organised by TECRO, which intends to continue the
practice as part of their annual welfare activities.
Acting on behalf of the centre,
Community Service Council Centre Director Miss Chang Mu-Lan expressed
her appreciation and hoped that such kind gesture would set a good
example to society.
