Protecting Image of Islam Up At
MABIMS Meet
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Woking papers protecting the Image of Islam were
the main focus of discussion at the MABIMS Muzakarrah yesterday.
Representatives of MABIMS member
countries discussed the issue of protecting the image of Islam as
called for by Islamic laws in their Muzakarrah.
Brunei’s representative, Awang Haji
Abdul Aziz in his paper said that the predicament, which is
surfacing now is not of Islamic image as Islam is a true and perfect
religion from Allah the Almighty.
He said the real problem was
created by the Muslims themselves, resulting Islam being looked down
by others.
The main question was how
well-prepared was the ummah in minimising the misperception among
the non-Muslim communities towards Islam.
Anything that could taint the image
of Islam should be analysed and assessed in order to correct or to
overcome it.
Among the two factors that
contributed to giving Islam a bad name were the behaviour of the
ummah and those non-Muslims who were biased towards Islam.
The ummah's ignorance, poverty and
diseases of the soul hindered the Islamic community from becoming
united.
These were negative factors that
must be eliminated.
A speaker from Malaysia, Datuk Haji
Ahmad Mustafa bin Haji Abdul Karim, viewed this as the main
obstruction that could spoil the image of Islam.
In his paper, he stated that the
beauty of Islam could be seen in the attitude, actions and behaviour
of Muslims themselves.
Its beauty can also be realised if
the ummah has the understanding, the right interpretation and
approach of the Islamic teachings.
Meanwhile, a participant from
Singapore in his working paper talked about the preservation of the
true image of Islam through the practice and experience of Syariah
or Islamic laws.
Mohammad Hanan Hassan suggested a
number of strategies on Islamic education while, at the same time,
the perception on Islam must be corrected if it is wrong, and
strengthened it, if right.
He said the principles and values
in Islam brought about balance in life and human developments and
harmonious life as well as abolishing all kind of cruelties.
A number of other topics were also
presented and discussed by participants in the meeting. --
