Brunei To Host 3rd Mabims Experts' Discussion

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam plays host to the third MABIMS experts' discussion will run for three days beginning February 13 in conjunction with the new Hijrah year, at the Dakwah Islamiah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs

This was agreed during the Annual Informal Religious Ministers meeting of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS) in 2000.

The discussion for MABIMS scholars aims to establish a forum for exchanging ideas, experience based on the discussion spirit in efforts to find views, up-to-date and appropriate methods.

Results of the discussion are expected to enable scholars and the concerned parties to carry out their functions and roles efficiently as the Islamic Syariah supporters and the pioneer for the societal development under the processes of development, modernisation and globalisation.

The discussion will feature four working papers, which are closely related to the recent issues. These four papers will be discussed in the workshops in details which will produce a conclusion.

The topics are 'Menjaga imej Islam: Satu Tuntutan Syarak', 'Keluarga Sakinah Kaitannya Dengan AIDS, Narkoba dan Pelacuran', 'Ancaman Ajaran Sesat Terhadap Akidah dan Keselamatan Dalam Negeri' and 'Peranan Ulama dan Perkemhangan Sains Hayat dan Bioteknologi'.

The discussions will be attended by MABIMS representatives from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

The discussions will also be attended by other members in the government agency that has relevance to the discussion topics.

There will also be a speech by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Awang Basar, the Chairman of the Working Committee, who is also the judge of the Syariah High Courts, Judiciary Department, Prime Minister's Office of Brunei.

The main event will be a speech delivered by the guest of honour, Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Haji Awng Md Zailn bin Hj Serudin. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
