Hamburg insist on reinstatement
Hamburg -
SV Hamburg are not willing to accept an out-of-court ruling and insist
on proceedings in a German football court in connection with a
manipulated cup match last August, club boss Bernd Hoffmann said on
Thursday.
News reports suggested that the
ruling body DFB favoured an out of court settlement in the form of
financial compensation for Hamburg. But Hoffmann said: "Of course
there will be a trial. We want to be reinstated."
Kicker sports magazine speculated on
a plan in which the manipulated first round game between third
division Paderborn and Hamburg is to replayed.
The winner will then meet one of the
eight quarter-finalists drawn by lot for an additional game, with the
winner of that match qualified for the final eight.
Hamburg oppose a rematch in Paderborn
because Paderborn captain Thijs Waterink admitted to have received a
10,000-euros victory bonus, allegedly from men who successfully bet on
the game. Match referee Robert Hoyzer, the man at the centre of the
current match fixing scandal, admitted to manipulation of the game to
allow the successful bets.
Paderborn
won 4-2 with the help of two disputed penalties and a red card for
Hamburg player Emile Mpenza.
Hoyzer
will not be present on Friday at the DFB, but was heard by DFB
officials on Wednesday.
The cup match is the first of a
possible 13 games the DFB has to look into. Hoyzer admitted to fixing
four games, other games are under suspicion as well and in addition
club have appealed in connection with other matches.
