Book On Social Issue Write-ups Launched

Bandar Seri Begawan – A book compiling winning write-ups in slogan creating and article writing competitions based on the subject of Handling Social Issues 2004 was launched yesterday.

The book is entitled "Langkah Menangani Isu Social" published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The ceremony was officiated by Awang Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as the Chairman of the National Level Committee to Handle Social Issues.

The prize giving ceremony for the Handling of Social Issues Slogan Creating and Article Writing 2004 was held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Prizes were given for several categories, including Upper Secondary, Colleges and Higher Institutions, and the Public and Private Sectors.

Earlier, the committee identified three main social issues, including Domestic Violence, Free Sexual activity among youths, and Drug Abuse.

The National Level Committee to Handle Social Issues hoped to deal with these issues using said competition.

It is expected that the public may be inspired to shape and create a harmonic and happy family and contribute ideas or views that can raise awareness on the importance of family values.

At the same time, the competition could give students and the public a chance to showcase their talents in this area.

The committee said that social problems among youths, which were used as basis for the competition, is given proper attention in Brunei as youths form a large percentage of the country's population and are the future of Brunei. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
