Three Muslims Held For Drinking
Alcohol At Kuala Lurah
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Three Muslims were caught consuming alcohol across
the Kuala Lurah border during a joint operation on Thursday night.
They could be fined up to $500 under Chapter 77 of the Islamic
Religious Council Act.
Five drivers too were meanwhile
slapped with fines after driving with faulty brake lights and broken
licence plates as well as for carrying out `docket offences' or
driving without licence.
Over 25 enforcement personnel from
the Syariah Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Royal
Brunei Police Force, Land Transport Department, Immigration and
Customs were involved in the joint operation around 7.15pm, which ended
around l0 pm, when the border gates closed.
Authorities were stationed in two
areas in Jln Kuala Lurah namely at the control post itself and at the
road about five kilometres away from the border where roadblocks were
carried out.
The idea of carrying out such
roadblocks was to nab errant motorists violating the law by crossing
the border on foot leaving their cars on the side of the road or those
carrying contraband goods across the border on foot.
