‘Tiam-pan' tops Chinese New Year
sell-outs
By Cedrina Norlaila Abd.

Popular festive Chinese delicacies
known as "tiam-pan", or "kuih-bakol" in Malay, are selling out fast at
several department stores and retail outlets throughout the country.
In addition to the apparent high demand within the Chinese community
in the run-up to the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) festivities,
other people in the Sultanate have also been seen purchasing the
aromatic cakes, either out of curiosity or for the genuine love of the
taste. Tiam-pan is essentially made out of glutinous flour and brown
sugar and its preparation involves a few hours of steaming.
