The agreements were parts of the effort the Language and Literature Bureau initiated to uphold the sovereignty of the Malay language, not just locally but regionally.

Awang Haji Sumadi bin Sukaimi, the Acting Director of the Language and Literature Bureau, the local market has been flooded with children books from abroad.

A total of nine children’s books will be published by the Language and Literature Bureau.

Among the books to be published will focus on medicinal benefits of local herbs entitled "Perubatan Herba Masyarakat Melayu Brunei".

According to its author, Dayang Mas Irun binti Alli, she deliberately uses local words and phrases in her book to expose and promote the identity and heritage of the Brunei-Malay culture.

She said for her book, she did a lot of research by collecting data and information through interviews and familiarised herself with the world of medicinal herbs.

Currently, all the books are in the third proof-reading stage.
