Belait District Raises Over $91,000 For Tsunami Survivors

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Tsunami Aid Fund in the Belait District has collected $91,206.54 through various activities held in the district.

The charity walkathon yesterday raised $44,204.56 while $18,500.00 was raised during a golf tournament held last Saturday.

Meanwhile, $28,501.98 was collected from various government departments, schools, organisations, villagers and companies as well as individuals.

The financial contributions were received by Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yussof bin Bakar, the Belait District Officer and the chairman of the fund, at a ceremony held at the Belait District Hall. A charity sale was also conducted to help raise funds.

Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yussof said that the large sums collected clearly showed how caring and attentive the community is about helping those in need. He hoped that such a positive attitude would continue. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
