Sunglasses And Chewing Gum Banned In National Day Parade
By Dk Suria Rina PHA

Bandar Seri Begawan - Participants in this year's National Day parade on February 23 will be barred from wearing sunglasses, carrying umbrellas and handbags as well as chewing bubble gum.

The ban was one of the major points highlighted by Awang Haji Sumadi Bin Sukaimi, the Chairman for the Parade Committee, at a meeting held yesterday morning at Dewan Digadong of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

About 7,000 people, including uniformed personnel who are expected to take part in the National Day parade, must show high spirit of patriotism, said Awang Haji Sumadi as he outlined the programmes and importance of the event.

Addressing senior government officers at the meeting, Awang Haji Sumadi stressed that since the parade would be the main programme, he hoped that all the participants would show high national spirit on that occasion.

It was also announced that to prevent rubbish from being scattered all over the place, the authorities will provide many rubbish bins for that day.

It was disclosed that transportation and other necessities will be arranged for parade participants who are staying far away in Temburong.

Also highlighted were the mobile restrooms. All these facilities will be provided for the convenience of the public during the National Day celebration.

A question-and-answer session was also held during the meeting yesterday.

With the theme "Bersepadu Memperkasa Mandiri Bangsa", this year's 21st National Day celebration will be held at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
