Pakistan Naval Chief On Visit Calls On Brunei Ruler

Bandar Seri Begawan – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah received in audience Admiral Shahid Karimullah, Chief of the Naval Staff Pakistan Navy, at the Istana Nurul Iman yesterday.

The Pakistan Naval Chief is on a four-day visit.

The Admiral was accompanied by Retired Major Mr. Badr-ud-Deen, Pakistan High Commissioner to Brunei.

Also present was Pehin Brigadier General Dato Awang Haji Mohammad Yussof bin Abu Bakar, Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Dani, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, and Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

Admiral Shahid Karimullah began his career in the Pakistan Navy by joining the Operation Branch in 1965.

He is a communication specialist and a graduate of the US Naval War College.

He has since held a number of prestigious command and staff appointments.

He has commanded two destroyers, a major training establishment and 25th Destroyers Squadron.

He fought the 1971 India-Pakistan War while commanding a gunboat.

Meanwhile, in the morning, Admiral Shahid made a courtesy call on YAM Pengiran Retired Major General Pengiran Hj Ibnu Ba'asith, Deputy Minister of Defence at the Bolkiah Garrison.

The visit was a familiarisation tour for Admiral Shahid.

He arrived in the country Sunday. His visit is hosted by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy.

Both the Royal Brunei Navy and Pakistan Navy enjoy strong bilateral ties and close working relationship covering a wide ranging aspect.

These include exchanges of visits among personnel of the two navies and naval exercises, military courses, ad hoc seminars and meetings to promote understanding and rapport between the two sides.

The Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan also called on Pehin Brigadier General Dato Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Abu Bakar, Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
