The first Syar'iah Court in Borneo is
expected to be completed soon. It is going to be located in the
capital and will become a new landmark at the heart of Bandar Seri
Begawan.
The B$14.6 million construction
project was undertaken by local company, Pahaytc Sdn Bhd.
This four-storey building is now near
80 per cent completion and should open at the end of April this year,
said Managing Director of Pahaytc Sdn Bhd, Mr Yong Teck Foo.
The Brunei Syar'iah Court covered an
area of 26,000 square metres, which does not include the parking
areas.
Construction started in July 2001 and
was scheduled to finish on July 12 last year, but abandoned for
several months due to the rise of certain issues.
The company restarted the work again
in June 2003.
Once completed, the Syar'iah Court
will have seven courtrooms and other facilities.
