Non-Malays compete in jawi reading

A non-Malay student reading jawi.

Non-Malay students showed their abilities in reading jawi at a competition held in the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex, Berakas yesterday morning.

Organisers said participants came from the non-government schools including the Chinese schools throughout the country.

The event was organised in conjunction with the Brunei Book Fair 2004 being held at the same venue until March 5. The winners of the competition will be informed by telephone to attend the prize presentation on March 5 at 2 pm.

Activities during the fair included quiz, word formation, poem reciting, Mind Test, Treasure Hunt, Memory Test, Acting Test, News Reading Test and Gambus Playing.

For children, there will be drawing and colouring competitions for ages 5 - 6, 7 - 9 and 10 -12 tomorrow, February 29, from 9am to 11am.

Talks on books and stamps, cartoon drawing workshop, poem reading workshop and performances by the Kelab Muda Mudi and Universiti Brunei Darussalam's Kelab Rakis and Kelab Teater will also be held.
