His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan
arrived in Brunei Darussalam yesterday for a two-day visit, RTB
reported. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam was present at Brunei International Airport to welcome His
Majesty King Abdullah.
Also present to welcome the Jordanian
King at the airport was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.
The Jordanian royal delegation
includes His Excellency Dato Laila Utama Walid Al Kurdi, RTB reported.
From the airport, His Majesty the
Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty King
Abdullah made a visit to the Empire Hotel and Country Club in
Jerudong, where Their Majesties were welcomed by the Hotel's Board of
Directors. Also joining Their Majesties was HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.
The Empire Hotel and Country Club was
officially opened in 2000 and 49 per cent of its labour force of more
than 800 employees are locals.
Among the awards the hotel has
received are for best new resort in Asia Pacific in 2001 and best
marketing effort as an individual city hotel, RTB reported.
Relations between Brunei and Jordan
are cordial and both countries are members of several international
organisations including the United Nations and the Organisation of
Islamic Conference.
Their Majesties then went to the
Empire Hotel's Country Club. Among the facilities there are bowling
arena, golf course and health centre.
