Residents lament over mosque water
cut
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Mosques nationwide must be equipped
with water tanks so Muslims could continue taking ablutions even in
cases of water cuts.
Muslims must take ablution or "air
sembahyang" before performing prayers or reading the Holy Quran.
As one area in the Brunei-Muara
District was hit by a water cut yesterday, Muslims who wanted to
perform their daily prayers were frustrated as the taps at their local
mosque also went dry.
The residents said they usually
performed their daily prayers at the mosque but were surprised when it
went dry yesterday.
"We have to go to other mosques to
perform our daily prayers. We felt that the mosque should be equipped
with large tanks so at least the water taps would never go dry," they
said.
They added that the mosque should
also consider employing a water reservoir to ensure that the ablution
taps would never go dry, just like at the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien mosque
in the Capital.
Shops and restaurants in the area
were also affected by the water cut, thus causing hardship to
operators and customers alike.
The area was the site of many
commercial buildings.
