Sultan Grants Farewell Audience To Swedish King

Bandar Seri Begawan – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and Her Majesty the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha yesterday afternoon received a farewell audience from His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden and Her Majesty Queen Silvia, who ended their three-day State Visit to the country.

His Majesty Sultan of Brunei and Her Majesty Raja Isteri greeted the Swedish Monarch and Queen upon their arrival at Istana Nurul Iman.

His Majesty Sultan of Brunei and Her Majesty Raja Isteri together with His Majesty King of Sweden and Her Majesty Queen Silvia proceeded to the Balai Penghadapan for the farewell audience.

Also present were His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bolkiah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Also in attendance were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al Islam.

His Majesty Sultan of Brunei in his titah at the Royal Banquet in honour of the state visit by the Swedish Monarch and Queen said that Their Majesties visit would do much to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the values Brunei and Sweden have shared.

His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf and Her Majesty Queen Silvia then received farewell greetings from Cabinet Ministers, Members of Privy Council, Deputy Ministers, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force, Heads of Foreign Mission, Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister's Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Before departure, His Majesty King of Sweden and Her Majesty the Queen of Sweden proceeded to the royal dais to receive the royal salute.

The national anthems of both countries were played.

His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf in his speech at the Royal Banquet commemorating his state visit to the country said the scope for increased trade and investments ought to be large between Brunei and Sweden and the interest shown so far from both sides is promising.

The Swedish Monarch sincerely hoped that one of the results of this state visit will be a growing commercial cooperation between both nations in the future. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
