Workshop to encourage reading among youths
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

To inculcate a reading culture among the young generation, a two-day reading workshop was held from Friday at the Anggerek Hotel in Berakas.

Teachers of PDS School, Jerudong International School and Sekolah Rendah Kiarong attended the first session, while yesterday's was meant for education officers from the Curriculum Department, Ministry of Education. Organised by TA & Morgen Distributors, it was actually introducing a set of reading programmes that may nurture such a habit in youths.

Speakers at the event were Ms Emelyn and Ian Martin. According to them, the closed-door workshop was meant for teachers, who are instrumental in nursing their students' reading habits.

However, the $8,000 price tag of the aforementioned set may prove to be a little too much for individuals. "The reading has yet to permeate deep into the strata of society.

"But with greater emphasis by relevant authorities on reading, people are beginning to realise its importance. Knowledge is becoming an important resource, an asset highly sought after by those in developed countries," they said.
