Low Cost Housing For Poor, New Converts

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Islamic Religious Council has introduced a housing aid scheme known as the poor and new converts low cost housing project.

The move is designed to resolve housing problems for those people who are entitled to receive the Zakar or tithe.

The presentation of house key to a recipient under the Islamic Religious Council Housing Scheme was held yesterday.

Dayangku Abna from Kampong Salambigar received the key from the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Awang Haji Yahya, who is also the Vice President of the Islamic Religious Council.

Costing nearly $50,000 the house, which is built on a 2.5-hectare piece of land, is furnished with furniture costing $1,000. The money was drawn from the Islamic Religious Council tithe collection.

The construction of the house started in October last year and was completed in three months.
