Thai Education Minister Visits
Brunei's SEAMEO-VOCTECH

Begawan - Thai Education Minister Mr Pongphon Adireksan is in
the sultanate in a bid to boost relationships between Thailand and
Brunei.
Mr Pongphon Adireksan visited the
Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation Regional Centre
for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO-VOCTECH)
in Gadong yesterday.
At the centre, Director Awang Haji
Mohd Daud briefed the Thai Education minister, who is also President
of the SEAMEO Council, on the establishment and administration of the
centre.
Established in 1990, SEAMEO-VOCTECH
is one of 15 SEAMEO centres under the Southeast Asia Ministers of
Education Organisation.
Mr Pongphon Adireksan also witnessed
the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between
SEAMEO-VOCTECH and the Department of Schools on the new school
adoption project.
The project was started in 1997 with
the Jerudong Primary School as the first school to be adopted by the
centre.
In the afternoon, the visiting Thai
Education minister paid a courtesy call on Education Minister Pehin
Dato Awang Haji Abdul Aziz.
During the meeting, both ministers
agreed to further enhance the existing relations between the two
countries from time to time.
The two ministers also discussed
bilateral issues on information exchanges on the latest development
and reformation between Brunei and Thailand.
Mr Pongphon Adireksan is on tour of
the ten Asean member countries.
Also present during the courtesy call
were Education Deputy Minister Dato Haji Suyoi and other senior
officials from the ministry of both countries.
The Thai minister later visited the
Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in Tungku.
At UBD, Mr Adireksan was briefed on
the development of the campus.
Cooperation in the field of education
between Brunei and Thailand has long existed. Currently, there are
students from the two countries who further their studies at the
universities of both nations.
