The Magistrate's Court
yesterday extended the bail of the Royal Customs and Excise
Department officer and his Malaysian spouse who were caught in
their possession with 47.77 grammes of Methylamphetamine pending
for the case to be remitted to the High Court.
The couple Mohammad Ridzwan Hj
Mansor, 31 and wife Zaiton Hj Sahat, 30, were jointly charged
with having in their possession the said amount of drugs, for
the purpose of trafficking in contravention of section 3A of the
MDA.
According to the AG's Chambers
Prosecuting Officer, Suriana Radin, the case was remitted to the
High Court as the heavy drug trafficking case is beyond the
Magistrates' jurisdiction.
During the hearing, Defence
Counsel Md Shazale applied for the computer and Standard
Chartered bankbooks to be returned.
The request was granted but he
failed to make an application for the bag, in which a huge
amount of cash was kept, to be returned.
The Prosecution objected to the
application and she informed the court that the bag was to be
tendered in as evidence for the case.
The couple are facing a penalty
under section 3A of the Misuses of Drugs Act, Cap 27 which
carries a maximum 30 years jail and 15 strokes of the cane with
the minimum sentence being 20 years and 15 strokes.
