A two-day conference to discuss major global concerns began
yesterday, RTB reported.
Eighty boys and girls from
secondary schools in the region are discussing four key issues:
the role of government in the prevention of the spread of
disease; the responsibility of the business community regarding
human rights; the rights of indigenous peoples; and the right of
all communities to a clean water supply.
At the end of the debating
session, the students will produce action plans will be
submitted to the United nations and to non-government
organisations they have selected.
The debating session at the
International Convention Centre is organised by the Brunei
International School (ISB).
It was opened yesterday morning
by the Managing Director of Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd., Dato Paduka
Haji Hamdillah, who sponsored the event.
The conference aims to
encourage international cooperation, understanding and world
citizenship among the young people.
