Students debate on global concerns

A two-day conference to discuss major global concerns began yesterday, RTB reported.

Eighty boys and girls from secondary schools in the region are discussing four key issues: the role of government in the prevention of the spread of disease; the responsibility of the business community regarding human rights; the rights of indigenous peoples; and the right of all communities to a clean water supply.

At the end of the debating session, the students will produce action plans will be submitted to the United nations and to non-government organisations they have selected.

The debating session at the International Convention Centre is organised by the Brunei International School (ISB).

It was opened yesterday morning by the Managing Director of Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd., Dato Paduka Haji Hamdillah, who sponsored the event.

The conference aims to encourage international cooperation, understanding and world citizenship among the young people.
