The 'Laksamana' team emerged as winners, while Rozaidah Hj Abdul Rahman was adjudged as the best speaker in a Malay debate competition held at the Multi-Purpose hall of Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, Rimba, where the winners were awarded the 'Hjh Norjum Trophy'.

Previously, four teams - Laksamana Pahlawan, Hulubalang and Panglima - had battled in hopes of winning the trophy, named after the school's former principal who had actively contributed towards trophies for pre-vious debates.

The topic was entitled 'Co-curriculum activities providing additional burden to students', with 'Pahlawan' as the proposing team and 'Laksamana' as the opposing team.

The school's principal, Pg Hjh Rosnani Pg Hj Jeludin, was on hand to welcome the guest of honour for the function, Awg Hj Matassan Bin Hj Bungso, Assistant Director of the Curriculum Development.

"The School has so far produced a lot of debaters with calibre, which has been proven by students of the school who have represented the country for debate events in Singapore," said the principal during her speech, adding that such events held at the school would help acknowledge the potential students who are talented in the area.

Another speech by the guest of honour followed, where he explained the pros of holding debate competitions.

"With such competitions, the school will help promote creative thinking of the students, promote professional way of speech, build-up self confidence in students as well as give students a chance to contribute their personal ideas.

"This in turn also helps to expand the intellectual abilities of individuals. Other than that, the importance of physical and mental strategies can help individuals to shape-up their personalities and help them to achieve their highest goals in life by being optimistic," he added.

Four judges from the Co-curriculum department, Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as from the school itself were invited to observe and judge the competition.

The guest of honour later presented the trophies and certificates to the wining team at the end of the competition.
