The current hazy state and the poor air quality in the country
are the possible causes of another incident of fire reported in
the capital yesterday.
Hundreds of 12-inch PVC pipes
stored in a locked area near the Jerudong International School (JIS)
at the Tungku-Link were destroyed in a fire at about 5:15 pm
yesterday afternoon.
The first person to be at the
scene was a worker of the Empire Hotel and Country Club, Mr Chen
Kin Huat, who was doing his routine check-up at the water
filtration building near the storage area. He reported the
incident to the hotel's fire chief Hj Abu Bakar.
Upon receiving the report, Hj
Abu Bakar called the Fire Services Department to control the
fire from spreading to the water filtration building.
12 personnel from the Jerudong
Fire Station led by ASO Hj Yusale arrived at the scene at about
5:30 pm. Their colleagues from the Berakas Fire Station and
water tankers from the Waterworks Department assisted the
firemen in putting out the fire.
The firemen had to break into
the storage area as the gate was locked. The owner of the pipes
is not yet known and the cause of the fire is still under
investigation.
