Forum unveiling National Day's theme

The guest of honour Pehin Dato Paduka (Dr) Hj Awg Hussein at the 19th National Day forum organised by UBD and attended by lecturers and students.

The theme 'Bangsa Berilmu Negara Maju' (Knowledgeable Nation, Country Progresses) is timely for the 19th National Day for it is relevant with today's current development, especially with the Information Technology boom.

This was noted by Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Paduka (Dr) Hj Awg Hussein bin Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Mohd. Yusof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, in his forward address for the very first forum held in conjunction of the 19th National Day.

Pehin Dato Paduka (Dr) Hj Hussein said that "a knowledgeable nation in all fields acts as a track in cultivating skills and professions of one nation and hence will develop one country. And this could be achieved by people from all levels of society who are high spirited and self-confidence."

"In the period of 19 years, Negara Brunei Darussalam has proven itself as a sovereign and wealthy country, whether it will be on the national, regional as well as international level in all fields," he added.

"The forum is aimed at unveiling the reason for the 'Bangsa Berilmu, Negara Maju' theme, apart from preparing an arena for a harmonious and lively discussion so that all views and ideas introduced will give more knowledge and understanding on the implied factors behind the theme," explained Professor Madya Dr. Awg Hj Hashim bin Hj Abd Hamid, Chairperson of the organising committee.

The forum, broadcasted live through RTB channel from the International Convention Centre (ICC), was organised by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). All scholars ranging from lecturers to students attended the forum.

The members of panel comprise of experienced and skilled people who are capable in delivering the right message to the public, and in how to prepare oneself as the nation's knowledgeable children and how to contribute to the nation and country.

Chairing the panel was Professor Madya Dr. Awg Hj Hashim bin Hj Abd Hamid whereas members of the panel were Dato Paduka Awg Hj Wahab bin Juned, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Pg Datin Hjh Mariam Pg Hj Metarsad, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dato Paduka Hj Abd. Ghani Dato Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Hj Abd. Rahim, Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah, and Awg Hj Antin Ahad, President of PGGMB.
