As a result of the operation
codenamed 'Ops Banteras 7' conducted by the Immigration
Department two days ago, three Thais and a Bangladeshi were
brought to the Magistrate's Court yesterday and were each fined
$1,000 or a month jail in default for remaining unlawfully in
the country.
According to the Immigration
Prosecuting Officer, Moharefandi Hj Md Tahir, Tuhin Manzur
Sheikh, 35, had remained unlawfully in the country for a period
of 1,934 days while Sawong Amklai, 44, stayed unlawfully for 771
days, Songphol Praochaisong, 43, stayed unlawfully for 590 days,
and Somthawin Naksen, 42, overstayed 1,596 days.
The prosecutor said Tuhin was
caught at a house number 20-20A in Simpang 124-122, Kg Selayun
after failing to produce any documents such as a passport to the
Immigration officers. It was revealed upon investigation that he
had left his employer since in August and had worked with
various companies as a labourer.
Meanwhile, Sawong was caught at
a small hut, located at Simpang 218 in Jalan Kecil, Lumapas. It
was revealed that he had stayed unlawfully after the expiry of
his employment pass on the January 14 in 2001.
Songphol was caught at house
number 30 at the vicinity of Jalan Ban 4 in Kg Mulaut Kilanas.
It was revealed that he had
been granted a social visit pass upon his first arrival on July
9, 2001 and was valid until July 16, 2001. However, he never
turned up for the extension of his pass.
And Somthawin, a run away
worker was caught at a small hut at 'Ladang Ubi Kayu' in Kg
Lumapas after failing to produce his passport to the Immigration
officers.
Any foreigners who commit this
offence will face an imprisonment penalty of not less than 3
months and not more than 2 years and a fine not exceeding $6,000
or both, the prosecutor said.
