The people of Kampong Lamunin in the Tutong district showed off
their patriotism and full support for the nation by holding
their own National Day celebration at the newly built Balai
Budaya of the village.
The ceremony was held on the
evening of National Day, February 23 and was conducted by the
Majlis Perundingan Kampong Lamunin.
Tutong district officer, Awg
Hepnie bin OKPSD Abang Abu Hanifah, also the guest of honour was
welcomed by the village's head Mej(B) Hj Tahamid bin Hj Kula.
During the ceremony, the Balai
Budaya was officially handed over to the village's head by the
Commanding Officer of the Second Battalion of ABDB Land Forces
Lt Col Aminuddin Ihsan bin Dato Paduka Hj Abidin.
The Balai Budaya was
constructed by members of the Second Battalion as one of their
contributions to the community.
The ceremony was celebrated
with cultural performances by people of the village, which
included Kedayan, Dusun, Tutong and Chinese. The Kedayan people
played traditional musical instruments such as 'Guriding', 'Gandang
Sedaman', 'Tambur' and 'Tangkung'
The Dusun people showed off
their 'Gandang' and dances. These included 'Gandang Ibang-ibang',
'Gandang Parang Mengalai' 'Gandang Usak Luba' and 'Gandang
Ancayau'.
The representatives of the
Tutong people played the violin and saxophone. Included in the
performances was a syair about Kampong Lamunin, which was read
by the village's head.
Members of the Second Battalion
also contributed to the performances by giving a nasyid song
called 'Cahaya Jihad'. The Chinese community performed a couple
of songs and dances. Patriotic song was also sung.
The ceremony was ended by a 'Mukun'
show, which attracted a large crowd.
