An Indoor Football Tournament organised by the Physical Education Club of Universiti Brunei Darussalam was held at the UBD's Sports Complex yesterday afternoon.

The tournament which was opened to all the primary schools in the Brunei-Muara District was divided into two categories. Category 'A' is for the teachers and staff of the participating primary schools in the district while category 'B' is for the school students.

A total of 10 teams participated in the category 'A' and 8 teams in category 'B'.

The guest of honour for the event was Cikgu Haji Abdul Aji bin Haji Ishak, the Deputy Director (Primary Section), Department of Schools, Ministry of Education.

The finals of the tournament was between UBD's lecturers and staff 'C' team and the Department of Curriculum Development team in category A.

Both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the match and a penalty kick was needed to select the winner. The Curriculum Development team eventually won the match with a 3-2 penalty goal.

In category 'B' the winner was the team of Pehin Dato Jamil Primary School after it defeated Pulaie Primary School with a 4-2 victory.

The organising chairman, Awg Bakri bin Hj Bintang, said that the introduction of indoor football among primary school teachers and students in the country is aimed at providing an alternative sport activity for schools that don't have an appropriate field in their premises.

The objective of this competition was to enhance relationship among the UBD's residents, education officers, teachers and students in the Brunei-Muara district, he added.
