An Indoor Football Tournament organised by the Physical
Education Club of Universiti Brunei Darussalam was held at the
UBD's Sports Complex yesterday afternoon.
The tournament which was opened
to all the primary schools in the Brunei-Muara District was
divided into two categories. Category 'A' is for the teachers
and staff of the participating primary schools in the district
while category 'B' is for the school students.
A total of 10 teams
participated in the category 'A' and 8 teams in category 'B'.
The guest of honour for the
event was Cikgu Haji Abdul Aji bin Haji Ishak, the Deputy
Director (Primary Section), Department of Schools, Ministry of
Education.
The finals of the tournament
was between UBD's lecturers and staff 'C' team and the
Department of Curriculum Development team in category A.
Both teams were tied 1-1 at the
end of the match and a penalty kick was needed to select the
winner. The Curriculum Development team eventually won the match
with a 3-2 penalty goal.
In category 'B' the winner was
the team of Pehin Dato Jamil Primary School after it defeated
Pulaie Primary School with a 4-2 victory.
The organising chairman, Awg
Bakri bin Hj Bintang, said that the introduction of indoor
football among primary school teachers and students in the
country is aimed at providing an alternative sport activity for
schools that don't have an appropriate field in their premises.
The objective of this
competition was to enhance relationship among the UBD's
residents, education officers, teachers and students in the
Brunei-Muara district, he added.
