Sultan Leads Brunei On 19th
National Day Celebration

Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei witnessed the
opening of the 'Astaka', a symbolic structure that launched the 19th
National Day celebration at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Safuddien
in the capital yesterday.
Pehin Dato Awang Haji Hussain,
Culture, Youth and Sports Minister and Chairman of the celebration's
Executive Committee, greeted His Majesty upon arrival at the padang.
With His Majesty were His Royal
Highness Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, His Royal Highness
Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik and
His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen.
Shortly after arrival, His Majesty
received the royal salute and inspected a guard of honour mounted by
members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and the Royal Brunei
Police Force.
The event started with various field
performances reflecting the celebration's theme, 'Bangsa Berilmu
Negara Maju'.
The performances involved hundreds of
students, association members and government department staff.
More than 10,000 people representing
uniformed organisations, security force, ministries, educational
institutions, non-government organisations and the private sectors
participated in the march pass.
