A talk on health and skincare was held at Seameo Voctech lecture hall, Gadong last Saturday, which drew a huge crowd. Open to public, the speaker Professor Dr Hassan Yaacob gave a presentation on the new Gamat (golden sea cucumber) products, which had taken 12 years to developed.

A team of scientists carried out the research at the University of Malaya, University of Kyoto and University of Nihon within a time span of slightly over a decade and discovered, according to Dr Hassan Yaacob, an active substance within golden sea cucumber that has the ability to enhance human immunity to various diseases, from common flu to rheumatoid arthritis.

He said it was also found, during the studies, that the substance can accelerate regeneration of cells, bones and collagen.

"With the help of advanced pharmaceutical technology, we have now refined the extract and found a new generation of scientifically prepared products based on this substance," the professor added.

For decades, villagers in Langkawi have been benefiting from such nature wonder. Firm believers believe gamat is the perfect remedy for cuts, sores and inflammation.
