Rozana Dato Hj Yunos, the winner of the Table Topic contest
The Brunei Speakers Club held an
"International Speech and Table Topic" contest last Saturday
evening at the Riverview Hotel. In the International Speech category,
Lim Chui Hian from the Brunei Speakers Club (BSC) presented a speech
on 'Breaking Through' where she talked to the audience about how she
conquered her fears and insecurities.
Anita Wong of the Labuan Toastmasters
Club (LTMC) entitled her speech 'The Beauty of Pain'. She had the
audience captivated as she recalled her past frustrations and the
pains of learning the piano. Her speech focused on having a positive
attitude towards learning and that the pains of learning were
motivational forces that push each and every one of us through life.
As for the Table Topic contest, three
participants - Yong Kai Bing (LTMC), Elsie Dolores Jinivon (Institute
of Malaysian Banks TM Club) and Rozana Dato Hj Yunos (BSC) - had to
come up with a speech on the spot relating to a given topic "If
it is to be, it is up to me" for no more than two minutes. The
contestants managed not only to provide the judges and audience with
insights and humour, but at the same time, showing off their skills at
presenting under pressure.
Anita Wong from Labuan Toastmasters
Club was the winner of the International Speech category while Rozana
Dato Hj Yunos of the Brunei Speakers Club won the Table Topic Contest.
Both winners will next proceed to Kota Kinabalu for the Area K6
International Speech competition in Labuan on March 16.
The Brunei Speakers Club will be
having its next meeting at Jigsaw Primary School in Berakas. Budding
speakers are welcomed to the meeting.
