No fake currency involved in
alleged counterfeit case: police

The Royal Brunei Police confirmed
that the Brunei currency being passed by a man and a woman in Miri to
a money changer there were not counterfeit. Supt Hj Abd Murad bin Hj
Abd Hadi, the head of Public Relations, said the Criminal
Investigation Department of Royal Brunei Police proceeded to ask for
more information on the alleged counterfeit currencies from their
counterparts in Miri following the news report on a man and a woman
being arrested for alleged possession of fake Brunei and US
currencies.
"The Brunei money in question
was found to be original and no Bruneians were arrested or involved in
the alleged crime," he said.
Last Monday a man and a woman were
brought to the courts in Miri on suspicions of possessing fake foreign
currencies of Brunei Darussalam and US, the local newspapers in
Sarawak reported.
The two had been remanded for six
days to help the police investigation.
