By Rosli Abidin Yahya

The Royal Brunei Police confirmed that the Brunei currency being passed by a man and a woman in Miri to a money changer there were not counterfeit. Supt Hj Abd Murad bin Hj Abd Hadi, the head of Public Relations, said the Criminal Investigation Department of Royal Brunei Police proceeded to ask for more information on the alleged counterfeit currencies from their counterparts in Miri following the news report on a man and a woman being arrested for alleged possession of fake Brunei and US currencies.

"The Brunei money in question was found to be original and no Bruneians were arrested or involved in the alleged crime," he said.

Last Monday a man and a woman were brought to the courts in Miri on suspicions of possessing fake foreign currencies of Brunei Darussalam and US, the local newspapers in Sarawak reported.

The two had been remanded for six days to help the police investigation.
